Safety and driving comfort in the cold season: Choosing suitable tires for your Mercedes or smart plays a decisive role, especially during the winter months. When bad weather and road conditions prevail, it is particularly important to have a good road base. Find out here what to consider when buying and changing wheel sets in winter.
Complete winter wheels vs. winter tires - what is the difference?
Are winter tires and complete winter wheels actually the same thing? No, because: the term "winter tires" describes only the tires of the vehicle without rims. Accordingly, if you speak of a "tire changel", a new winter tire is mounted on the already existing wheel. Regarding complete wheels for winter, the sets consist of 4 winter tires and 4 suitable rims - suitable for your Mercedes-Benz or smart. A complete wheel change, for example from summer to winter wheels, therefore involves replacing the entire wheel - i.e. the tires and the rim.
Winter vs. summer
How can you tell the difference between winter wheel sets and summer wheel sets?
Winter tires that are approved for winter road conditions have the so-called Alpine symbol. For all winter tires, the Alpine symbol is mandatory. In addition, you can recognize this by the different tread properties. Summer tires are significantly harder than winter tires.
The winter tire tread is characterized by slats to prevent slippage on snow. Due to the soft tire tread compound, the winter tire is thus still flexible even at low temperatures, so that they remain grippy and adapt optimally to the road surface.
How much tread must the winter complete wheel sets have?
A minimum tread depth of 1.6 millimetres applies to tires. Since worn tires endanger braking performance, we recommend checking the tread depth regularly. Our tires are available in quality A as well as quality B in different tread depths and manufacturing data or even as new.
Quality A means:
✓ Age (DOT) up to 4 years
✓ Tread depth from 6.0 mm
✓ Tread condition: normal traces of usage
Quality B means:
✓ Age (DOT) up to 6 years
✓ Tread depth 4.0 to 5.9 mm
