In detail: What actually is a VIN?

Every car has a so-called "VIN". VIN is the abbreviation for vehicle identification number. In the past and still popularly referred to today as the "chassis number".

The VIN has 17 digits and consists of three parts: At the beginning is the manufacturer code and country of production. WDD stands for Mercedes-Benz in Germany, for example. The next part breaks down the models and model year as well as the engine and vehicle type. The VIN can be used to assign accessories, spare parts and components and, of course, rims with absolute certainty and precision.
